Home Whitening/In-Office Whitening

Professional Teeth Whitening for a Brighter Smile

A bright, clean smile can help improve confidence and create a healthier overall appearance.

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments because it helps reduce stains and discoloration while making teeth appear cleaner and naturally whiter.

At Blez Dental Clinic, we provide professional whitening treatment using the Opalescence whitening system from the United States, which is widely recognized internationally for its quality and effectiveness.

Patients can choose between in-office whitening performed at the clinic or home whitening performed comfortably at home depending on their lifestyle and personal preference.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

Teeth may gradually become darker or stained over time due to everyday habits and aging.

Common causes of tooth discoloration include:
・Coffee and tea
・Red wine
・Smoking
・Curry and strongly colored foods
・Aging
・Certain medications
・Natural enamel wear over time

Even patients who brush regularly may still notice gradual discoloration as the years pass.

What Is Home Whitening?

Home whitening is a professional whitening method that allows patients to whiten their teeth gradually at home using a custom-made whitening tray.

Unlike over-the-counter whitening products, professional home whitening uses customized trays designed specifically for the patient’s teeth, helping the whitening gel distribute more evenly and comfortably.

Many patients prefer home whitening because it allows flexibility and gradual color improvement at their own pace.

Home Whitening Process

1. Consultation and Shade Evaluation

The dentist first evaluates the patient’s oral condition and confirms whether whitening treatment is suitable. The current tooth shade is also checked before treatment begins.

If necessary, cleaning or tartar removal may be recommended before whitening to improve the whitening result.

2. Taking Impressions or Digital Scan

Impressions or digital scans of the teeth are taken to fabricate custom whitening trays designed specifically for the patient’s mouth.

Because the trays fit closely to the teeth, the whitening gel can work more effectively and comfortably.

3. Whitening at Home

Once the trays are ready, patients receive whitening gel along with instructions for home use.

Depending on the whitening gel concentration, patients generally wear the trays for approximately 2 hours per day or as instructed by the dentist.

The whitening process is gradual, and many patients begin noticing improvement over the following days or weeks.

In-Office Whitening Option

For patients who prefer faster whitening results, in-office whitening is also available.

During in-office whitening, the dentist applies whitening gel directly to the teeth and uses a special light to activate the whitening process.

The procedure generally takes approximately one hour.

Some patients choose to combine both in-office and home whitening treatments for longer-lasting and more noticeable results.

Will Teeth Become Sensitive?

Some patients may experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after whitening treatment. This varies from person to person and is usually temporary.

Patients with naturally sensitive teeth may require adjustments in whitening frequency or gel concentration depending on their condition.

Our dentists carefully explain how to minimize sensitivity and maintain comfort during treatment.

Foods and Drinks to Avoid After Whitening

Immediately after whitening, teeth may temporarily absorb stains more easily. To help maintain whitening results, patients are generally advised to avoid strongly colored foods and drinks for at least 48–72 hours.

These include:
・Coffee
・Tea
・Red wine
・Cigarettes
・Curry
・Tomato sauce
・Ketchup
・Dark-colored beverages

During this period, lighter-colored foods and clear beverages are generally recommended.

How Long Does Whitening Last?

Whitening results vary depending on each patient’s lifestyle, eating habits, smoking habits, and natural tooth color.

With proper care and maintenance, many patients are able to maintain a brighter smile for an extended period of time.
To help maintain results, we generally recommend:
・Regular dental cleaning
・Good oral hygiene
・Reducing staining habits when possible
・Occasional touch-up whitening
